Glenn Miller (01.03.1904 - 16.12.1944)

Glenn MillerAmerikansk musiker (trombon) och orkesterledare. Född på en farm i Clarinda, Iowa. Köpte sin första trombon som 11-åring för pengar han tjänat på jordbruksarbete. Bildade sitt första band som 14-åring i Fort Morgan, Colorado dit familjen flyttat. Redan 1921 hade han bestämt sig för att bli heltidsmusiker och det var också vid den tiden som han komponerade "Moonlight serenade" som sedan kom att bli hans signaturmelodi. Arbetade som arrangör och musiker i flera olika storband innan han bildade sin egen orkester. I slutet av 1930-talet bildade han orkestern med det speciella sound som kom att bli världsberömt. Hans orkester upplöstes dock 1942 då Glenn Miller blev inkallad. Han kom i stället att leda ett "Army air force band" med vilket han reste han runt i Europa med och spelade för de Amerikanska trupperna. Från 1928 var han gift med Helen Boulder och de hade två adoptivbarn, Steven och Jonnie. Glenn Miller försvann under en flygning mellan Storbritannien och Frankrike i december 1944 och ingen vet vad som hände. Efter Glenn Millers försvinnande övertogs bandets ledning av tenoristen och sångaren Gordon "Tex" Benneke. Efter kriget tilldelades Glenn Miller postumt medaljen "Bronze Star medal".
